Hiwasa kommt in Sicht.

"Typhoon Maja" arrives in Mugi on time at 8:42AM from direction of Tokushima. I wait for her at a Family Mart, where I take her shopping for survival rations for the next few hours.
Maja never wants to travel by night bus again, she says. Tired and kind of limp from this long ride in the bus and the two hours of the "short but loud train" from Tokushima, we make our way to Temple 23.
We leave the "pilgrimage route 55" shortly after Mugi and take the Minami Awa Skyline, whose breathtaking views of the sea have to be earned with a hilly road for 20 km. Every 5 km there is a small rest area where Maja shows me her first, small blisters. Something is wrong with her shoes or socks.
A pilgrim comes to meet us and warns us about the old pilgrim's path she has just walked. We believe her and stay on the easy track with a motorbike club. Apart from us, only a monkey and two cats are walking here.
The city Hiwasa comes into view: a castle, the temple and the nice Harbour completed the view. We first go to our accommodation, which is run by a couple about my age. The husband - a Frenchman - has lovingly restored an old fisherman's house. We chat for a long time with the landlady. Before 5pm, we quickly visit the temple and the onsen next door. Then to dinner - excellent! Maja has a good nose for accommodation and restaurants!
We discuss the next route with a pilgrim in the room. Another 26 km tomorrow - with or without blisters!
